Weight Loss Supplements- 2

In a previous post I wrote about 3 of the most popular weight loss supplements which are available today.

WEIGHT LOSS SUCCESS.

How You Can Lose That Weight AND Keep It Off.
Kindle Edition.

You can buy these without prescription in almost any pharmacy and many stores who's sole reason for being is to [supposedly] assist us with our weight loss in the fastest and easiest fashion.
These were:
1. Garcinia Cambogia Extract;
2. Caffeine;
3. Green Coffee Bean Extract;
I also suggested that none of these were probably worth the money you will spend on them should you decide to go that route in an effort to lose weight.
Today I have 3 more, supported by much hype and precious little else.
These are:

4. Raspberry Ketones.

As I've quoted elsewhere on the website from the Mayo Clinic: "For example, raspberry ketone supplements are marketed as clinically proven, natural weight-loss products.
As of November 2014, the results of only one clinical trial with raspberry ketone had been published.
The results include the following information:
The eight-week trial used a multi-ingredient supplement with raspberry ketone, caffeine, bitter orange, ginger root extract and garlic root extract, as well as other herbs, vitamins and minerals.
Seventy obese adults were randomly assigned to receive either the supplement or an inactive ingredient (placebo).
All of the participants were placed on a restricted diet and exercise program.
Forty-five people completed all eight weeks of the trial.
Among people completing the trial, the average weight loss in the supplement group was 4.2 pounds (1.9 kilograms).
The average weight loss in the placebo group was 0.9 pounds (0.4 kilograms).
While the difference between the two groups was significant, the weight loss in the treatment group was still modest.
And the trial was only eight weeks, which is not long enough to know if the supplement will help promote weight loss over the long term.
Because the supplement included multiple ingredients, it's not possible to judge which ingredients caused a treatment effect.
Therefore, the size, method and duration of the trial provide insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about the potential benefits of raspberry ketone."
In rats, again a single study often quoted, researchers found that raspberry ketones increased the breakdown of fat and increased the levels of adiponectin, a hormone thought to be related to weight loss.
This was only one study which used massive amounts of raspberry ketones to produce, what the promoters of the product will tell you is scientific evidence that raspberry ketones will indeed aid your weight loss.
You decide!

5. Green Tea Extract.

Green tea extract, as with green coffee bean extract, is high in antioxidents, the main one being epigallocatechin gallate [EGCG to the unitiated].
As well as being a very powerful antioxident EGCG actually has been shown to aid weight loss to some small degree, especially around the belly fat area.
Believed to increase the production of norepinephrine, a hormone which aids the body to burn fat, green tea extract is a key ingredient in many weight loss supplements and with the added benefit of its antioxidant properties green tea extract and perhaps just green tea may be a weight loss supplement worth a try just don't expect it to work miracles.

6.  Hydroxycut.

Not just one weight loss supplement but a whole suite of them, "Hydroxycut" is a family of weight loss supplements which are sold both over the counter and on the internet without a prescription.

Hydroxycut is actually a brand name and it's been available for more than ten years however, as far as I am aware there has only been one study in all that time into the effectiveness of hydroxycut as a weight loss aid.
Containing any number of active ingredients such as caffeine, wild olive extract, wild mint extract and komijn extract, Hydroxycut is really unproven as a weight loss aid and may cause some irritating side effects in people who have a sensitivity to caffeine.
The bottom line is that there is little actual evidence to support the claim that hydroxycut will help you to lose weight.

There's more too come, in the next post I'll be looking at three more weight loss supplements, don't forget to come back,

John.
PS As always your comments will be very welcome.
